The COUNTRY MANAGER

A new job title had been created by Race Of Champions organizator: The COUNTRY ADVISOR.

Race Of Champions took place in Bangkok in December 2012. A mega event, or the largest stadium event Thailand has ever done. Many people contacted me during the setup time and asked: “Are Thais able to host such a high tech, mega event already?”
Of course the can – Thailand is the 6th largest automotive production country and mechanical engineering is worldwide known. Maybe it’s not the skills what people missing from Thais, but communication problems, face-to-face interaction between people living in different cultures, with different ideologies, philosophy of life.

Yes, regarding that, it’s difficult to understand, how Thai’s want to match the expectations of a European event organization.  But the Management of Race Of Champions act different! They do events worldwide, to connect motorsport fans, talking international hero closer to their fans.

Michael Schumacher by example is Thai’s greatest hero. Even every Taxi driver in Bangkok knows him for his enormous help after the tsunami in 2004. He is one of the most successful person on earth, but still regarding the poor and willing to help, where help is needed. And he showed it to the Thais, who needed all help after the disaster in Phuket. During the race of Champions you could see banners with “Thank you Michael – we love you!” – not because of his titles, but because he is a real hero in Thailand.
It doesn’t make it easier for ROC to move an event from high tech Germany to Thailand, from a country with a lot of experience in organizing mega events, to a country, where this event would create a milestone. And exactly that’s the point, where a COUNTRY ADVISOR finds his place in an international organization.
With all my international event experience, my “love to Thailand” and the Buddhism, ROC chose myself to be their Country Advisor for the Race Of Champions in 2012.

There are many advisors on this planet. In Wikipedia you can read about Dipmeter Advisors and Combine Advisor, but nothing about a Country Advisor. One is the same for all: Their functions are purely consultative. Understanding is based on comprehension, discernment and empathy.
As a Country Advisor I do active support an idea or cause, especially it’s the act of pleading or arguing for something between people of different nations, cultures, religions or simple different understanding and knowledge.
The success of the ROC event was not only based on modern technology, engineering and FIA rules, but also on understanding between 200 foreigners coming to Thailand to run the event with another 600 Thais. It’s like running a multicultural company with 800 people right from the first day, without knowing each other and without any time of training.

It was a great pleasure for me to be part of the ROC Team, my job gave me an exaggerated opinion of the importance of a Country Advisor for such an international event.

The Maeklong Railway Market

A “must” to see in Bangkok Area ist the well known Train Market!
The Maeklong Railway Market is a unique market that is held daily literally on the railway track of the town Samut Songkhram (also called Maeklong). Just before the train arrives at Maeklong, the stallholders must remove their products from the track and retreat the awnings of their market stalls. Once the train departed again, they will put everything back on the railway track. The train from Samut Sakhon with Samut Songkhram (Maeklong) runs through the middle of the market seven days a week, eight times a day.
It is a very special moment to see the train move through the densely packed Maeklong Railway Market.
This train route is therefore famous around the world. There are several videos on YouTube showing how it works, but it's really amazing to see it with your own eyes. The Maeklong Railway Market is a colorful market that sells many fresh products and clothing.
But also the way to get there is already an adventure.

The Chinese Cemetery in Bangkok

That's why I love my city:

You can explore Bangkok every day and you fill still find unknown places.
Today I found a Chinese cemetery. Thousands of graves and a meeting place for the loved ones. In the center of the cemetery is a sports center, the ways through the cemetery are jogging paths...

It’s a different philosophy, to enjoy time with deceased relatives, where their souls rest in peace. An amazing place.

On a scooter, when Bangkok wakes up!

Join me on an early morninjg Scooter Tour!

Bangkok is a beautiful city! Especially when you wake up early in the morning and you do it to through the suburbs of the Metropolitan city. Just before sunrise the Thais step out of their houses and go to the markets. Market life is definitely something special. It's not only something for your eyes, but also for your nose with thousands of different smells of flowers, meet, candles, fish…
One of my newest tourism products are early morning tours on scooters, driving through the suburbs and getting this exciting experience of that extraordinary city.

But there are not only the markets, there are also beautiful parks, birds and butterflies waking up as well, singing and bouncing around through the quiet nature. Unbelievable, that you are still close to the city center and another million people are surrounding you.
Bangkok! This city different to all other cities I have seen in my life. Rich and poor are living together, hand-in-hand, helping each other and not being jealous about cars, houses or money. Next to Millionaires house are old, small wooden houses with just one room and simple TV. Rickshaws are driving around, taking all the ladies to the market.
You should definitely join such a tour with me on Sunday morning, when business people are sleeping on the roads I empty - but when the social life is still going on!

MUSEUM of CONTERFEIT

Besonderer Museum Tip in Bangkok:
Charlotte ist wieder zurück in München und hat ihrem Enkel Kevin ein paar Nike Turnschuhe aus Bangkok mitgebracht. Onkel Franz bekommt seine Rolex. Ihr Bruder ein Sortiment an Poloshirts von Lacoste.
Fake Mercedes Aluminium Felgen
Alles war billig. Alles vom Nachtmarkt Patpong.
